Cellphone with 3D LCD screen now available in Japan

No wonder the iPhone is a dud in Japan: Their handsets are far cooler than Apple's so-called iconic phone. Hitachi recently launched the Wooo H001 cellphone, with a price tag of 50,000 yen ($510), which has a tiny button that says "3D" below the keyboard.

According to a wire report, "push it, and the screen's image will appear three-dimensional, seeming to protrude slightly from the 3.1-inch liquid crystal display".

The stereoscopic screen has a resolution of 854 x 480. The phone also has a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and a 1Seg TV tuner. (FYI: 1Seg TV broadcasts are only available in Japan.)

The phone measures 111x51x18.6mm, weighs at 145 grams and also has the following features: dictionary, OCR functions, Bluetooth, IRSimple and an e-Wallet commonly found on Japanese handsets.

The Wooo H001 is being sold by Japanese telco KDDI Corp.
